What are the Two Threads that Weave Through the Different Emerging Practices that Connects them All?
And What are the Next Changes that Continue our Evolution?
Epigenetics
Epigenetics is one significant thread that is weaving through all of the emerging changes in consciousness that address going beyond the current and long-standing limitations. Before the concept of epigenetics, we were doomed with repression about how our parents and grandparents illnesses predetermined our propensity towards their physical and mental illnesses.
Simultaneously it was thought human beings did not have the capacity to change or grow after their brain physically developed! It was thought we could not really change after our brains finished their development which is now thought to be around 25-27 years old. Now we know neuroplasticity is continuous when engaging in specific activities and behaviors throughout life. Read on to discover these behaviors.
If that isn’t enough, cultural biases required us to never discuss things that occurred outside of the cultural paradigm for fear of being labeled crazy, unbalanced, or a kook, because being crazy has been the leverage of debilitation, making the person impotent on all levels and dismissing their contribution at any time in their life to at least questionable and often meaningless.
What is Epigenetics
Science has backed up what ancient practices always knew with epigenetics. Epigenetics means we can address the governing system of our being which has the ability to interface with the body’s responses to negative triggers before they are triggered! Epigenetics, according to the Center for Disease Control “is the study of how your behaviors and environment can cause changes that affect the way your genes work. Unlike genetic changes, epigenetic changes are reversible and do not change your DNA sequence, but they can change how your body reads a DNA sequence”. The key above is the statement “epigenetics changes are reversible” and “they can change how your body reads a DNA sequence”.
How Does the Body Change How it Reads and Responds to a DNA Sequence?
We can change how our overriding systems responds to traumas, negative thoughts, and negative environmental experiences because there is an overriding, higher-level system we can not only access, but develop, deepening our connection to and heightening its functioning. Attending to healing traumas we have experienced as well as familial and generational traumas are essential areas that change us. Other areas are healing addictions, eating disorders, and self-harm, getting good sleep, regular exercise, connecting and getting into nature, having our own connection to spirituality and others. (To learn more and about the other essential areas and healing go to the Full Circle Program at Transformational Wisdom).
What are the Five Areas that are Building the New Paradigm?
There is a simultaneous growing group of movements functioning independently of each other that are really the cultures overriding epigenetic system archetype beginning to bring in the content. The influential nature of these independent organizations is changing the paradigm about what is possible and about who we are. One of the essential elements of the five disparate organizations of human experiences is they each draw upon tapping into different levels of consciousness. These levels of consciousness bring about significant different perspectives of themselves, the nature of reality, human capabilities, and, most often, open their hearts to a feeling awareness often identified as compassion and understanding, also known as loving kindness, towards the Earth, all beings and creatures, and themselves.
Area Number 1
Crazywise is one of the contributing elements that rises above the governing limited cultural beliefs and limitations as an epigenetic movement. In the Crazywise movement, the combining of the concept ‘crazy’ with ‘wise’ implies what was once thought was crazy is actually accessing a wisdom, an anciently accessed wisdom, that is not only essential and beneficial for the person and their purpose, but also to their community. Phil Borges, the documentarian of Crazywise, identified how other cultures treated what Western culture identifies as aberrant mental states that needed mental health interventions and medication. These states are often considered a gateway to accessing states of awareness necessary for the community to thrive. This perspective challenges the Western definition and treatment of ‘mental illness’.
Area Number 2
Worldwide there has been and continues to be a building of awareness of the disservice and ineffectiveness of mental health treatment. Shifting consciousness from an ordinary state, accessing higher level perspectives with psychedelics and psychedelic assisted therapy is an effective treatment and allows people to heal. Individually people are seeking, and groups are now providing methods to move above the cultural mental health limitations to discover and manage physical and mental/emotional/spiritual concerns accessing a heightened state of consciousness that provides healing, insight, and new feeling awareness changing their perspective about their life and issues. This is a form of epigenetic interfacing and has been researched since 1986 by the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies, UC Berkeley Center for the Study of Psychedelics, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at John Hopkins, and many other notable research organizations in the United Kingdom, Israel, Germany, Netherlands, and other countries.
Area Number 3
As medical progress has been made, we are now able to revive, in some situations, people from death and people who have experienced a near-death experience have permission to share and discuss their experience(s). The Near-death experience also rises above the limitations of the current cultural paradigm (for the most part, with some limitations skewed when making sense of their experience) and reveals a grander understanding. Like psychedelic assisted access, the change in perception is necessary to gain insight, perspective, wisdom, and understanding. Radical changes in consciousness often are dramatic life-changing from career, friends, with relationships with others and within.
Area Number 4
The spiritual awakening and transformative experience path can be another contributor to accessing the epigenetics of our beings. In spiritual awakening and transformative experiences accessing beyond ordinary waking consciousness, is the shift that begins the transformation to access epigenetic responses. (It is noted that although not all spiritual awakening and transformative experiences are equal because experiences occur in mild, moderate, and acute. Accessing the epigenetic level occurs at the acute level and less likely at moderate and not very likely at the mild level).
Area Number 5
While there are differences and varieties of meditation, specific meditation practices develop the ability to reach deeper states. Learning to access the changes in respiration, heart rate, and brain waves are key to connecting to the deeper states and governing system of our beings. These specific meditation practices override the genetic switches.
How are We Beginning to Tap into the Methods that Access the Governing Epigenetics System?
While epigenetics is informing and corroborating neuroplasticity, and the ability to change how the DNA switches are read within, we are collectively discovering a level of our evolution and activation by accessing other states of consciousness, all forms of ancient wisdom. Concurring with Bruce Lipton, accessing the higher-level epigenetic system profoundly influences all systems to the degree that negative occurrences or predispositions can be positively changed and even more beyond this, change access to new, and ancient components of our beings and accelerating consciousness.
Considering We are in the Discovery Stages of Epigenetics What are the Key Elements for Accessing the Governing System for Healing, Integration, Progress, and Acceleration?
The key elements of shifting our paradigm into states that are receptive occur through simultaneous changes in brain waves, heart rate, and respiration. These three characteristics are also primary descriptors of psychedelic assisted experiences, near-death experiences, many spiritual awakening experiences, the change from waking to sleep and sleep into waking consciousness, meditation, and the changes noticed in communities of the Crazywise documentary. Receptivity is imperative as well as being able to take in content differently, with different systems of knowing and experiencing, and more deeply than in ordinary consciousness, and this receptive state is where we can connect with our epigenetic governing system. During this connection we are intentionally reaching the hard drive of our being.
Besides Receptivity what Else is Required to Connect to and Engage with Our Governing Epigenetic System?
It is the clarity of our intention and engagement that activates the new perception and neuropathways that cultivate and develop consciousness and the heart connection that makes significant changes. While consciousness is changing there are other simultaneous occurring connections with feeling awareness where this connection takes place as well as the intensity of the intention. If the direction is not clear or precise, or if the intensity is weak, the experience is not as valuable.
So, how do we cultivate and utilize an intensely focused experience and what are the tools that allow us to do so? Willingness to be fully present is key and repetition. Repetition is the way we learn as humans and is also the way we deepen into practice. Repetition allows us to seep into the nuances, as well as have a collection of experiences that can link over time, creating neurological changes.
Are There Daily Practice Methods that Develop Access to the Epigenetic System to Develop these Changes?
It is meditation, a specific kind of meditation! When we listen to certain frequencies, sound and music patterns these carry us into the receptive states, that simultaneously change brain waves, heart rate, and respiration. It is the easiest way to access and easily shift into another state of consciousness as a regular practice. Options for using these sound and music patterns are through listening, chant, singing, or humming because there is a resonance within the body. And it is the easiest method to build and deepen without having a near-death experience, taking psychedelics, or wait for an acute spiritual awakening and transformative experience! The practice of sound and music meditation and shifting consciousness deepens as we develop familiarity with it and allows us to manage and direct the practice in different ways.
What are the Next Shifts After These that Will Continue our Evolution?
Regulating consciousness is the first step. As outlined above, near-death experiences, psychedelic assisted therapy, spiritual awakening and transformative experiences, and in the Crazywise movement are forerunners in establishing the necessity of recognizing the value in shifting out of ordinary consciousness into states that are restorative, create a re-set, develop resilience, and access new healing perspectives especially with guidance and intention, and even moving beyond.
Reaching our epigenetic system requires leaning into intention, focus, repetition of practice, and social connections. This is in addition to attending to the foundational behaviors that change how the DNA sequences are read. Further developments about the role of shifting consciousness in harmonious groups is a level of social advancement. Gathering groups of people together to share shifting consciousness takes the consciousness changes to another level. Two or more people! This is a harmonization method within and with the group. In this entrainment-to-group connection there is a feeling that assists with expanding beyond the individual to greater than what the individual can experience on their own. The feeling of amplification creates a deep long-lasting connection and new neuropathways that can be easily reached again!
Another value of shifting consciousness in a group is alignment. When the group is highly focused with a particular intention, there is an intensified purpose that catalyzes amplification, the outcome, and benefits for all participants. Committed individuals within a group can design and amplify their receptivity with specifically directed practices that assist to elevate consciousness and guide the results of their experience gaining wisdom, insight, solve problems, for individuals and the collective concerns. But these methods are not for adults only. Reaching our epigenetic system is also for our children and can be used in families, evolving the paradigm.
Summary
We are overcoming the past limitations about
- Cultural biases of being called crazy
- The ability to change after the brain developed, neuroplasticity, and make new decisions
- Genetics that doomed us to carrying the diseases and illnesses of our families; all through epigenetics.
We have the ability to connect to the epigenetic governing system, guiding and influencing how it will respond. One of the foundational and essential components of reaching the epigenetic system is through shifting out of ordinary consciousness. Five groups that demonstrate the value of these experiences and are just beginning to tap into epigenetics are (1) the Crazywise Movement, (2) Psychedelic Assistance and Psychedelic Assisted Therapy (3) near-death experience’s (4) spiritual awakening and transformative experiences, and (5) the use of specific sound and music meditation. The common thread of all of these groups is shifts in brain waves, respiration, and heart rate that access changes in consciousness. Reaching our epigenetic system requires leaning into intention, focus, repetition of practice, and social connections that heightens outcomes for individuals and the group evolving the paradigm for all.
